Installing Stream Deck Profiles (Windows)

This profile is designed to save time and reduce friction in your workflow. Once installed, you can customize any key to match your personal shortcuts or preferences—nothing is locked or hidden. We have included a starting profile for you to use but feel free to make your own custom profiles that match your specific needs. 

Follow these steps to walk you through importing and activating your Stream Deck profile on Windows.

Requirements

Before you begin, make sure:

  • You have Elgato Stream Deck software installed (latest version recommended)
  • Your Stream Deck device is connected and recognized by the software
  • The profile file (.streamDeckProfile) has been downloaded to your computer

Step 1: Open Stream Deck Preferences

  1. Launch the Stream Deck application.
  2. Select your desired Stream Deck device in the upper-left area
  3. Click the gear icon (⚙️) in the top-right corner to open Preferences. This is where Stream Deck profiles are created, imported, and managed.

Step 2: Import the Profile File

  1. Select the Profiles tab.
  2. Locate the downward facing carat to open the menu
  3. Choose Import… from the menu.

Step 3: Select the Imported Profile

  1. Browse to the location where you downloaded the profile file (commonly your Downloads folder).
  2. Select the appropriate .streamDeckProfile file and click Open.
  3. Click the newly imported profile in the Profiles list.
  4. The button layout will immediately appear in the Stream Deck editor.
  5. Your physical Stream Deck will update automatically. At this point, the profile is installed and usable.

Step 4 (Optional): Assign the Profile to an Application

If this profile is designed to work with a specific app (for example, Audacity):

  1. With the profile selected, locate the Application dropdown on the right.
  2. Choose the application you want this profile to activate with.
  3. Stream Deck will now automatically switch to this profile whenever that app is in the foreground.

This is highly recommended for workflow-specific profiles.

Common Warnings & Watch-Outs

⚠️ Plugin Dependencies

Some buttons may rely on plugins (e.g.:

  • Volume Controller
  • BarRaider tools
  • OBS / Audacity / other integrations

If a button appears blank or shows a warning icon:

  • Open the Plugins tab in Stream Deck Preferences
  • Install or update the required plugin
  • Restart Stream Deck

⚠️ Windows vs macOS Profiles

This profile is intended for Windows:

  • Hotkeys, paths, and app bindings may not work on macOS
  • macOS users should purchase a mac-specific version of our Audacity profile

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Restart Stream Deck after importing profiles or plugins
  • Restart the target application (Audacity, OBS, etc.)
  • Ensure Stream Deck software is updated to the latest version
  • Re-assign missing actions by dragging them back onto keys if needed
